ATM Safety TIPS
Prepare transactions
ahead of time instead of at the ATM.
Always save your
ATM receipts to verify against your statement.
Don’t leave
your card or receipts at the ATM.
Never lend your
card to someone else. Protect your card as if it were cash.
Don’t tell
anyone your personal identification number, even if they ask.
Don’t write it on your card, and don’t keep a
record of it in your purse or wallet.
Don’t give
your card number out over the phone, unless you have initiated
the call.
Don’t let
others watch you enter your PIN in an ATM or merchant location.
When making transactions
at the ATM, be aware of your surroundings. Watch out for suspicious
characters and make sure the ATM is in a well-lighted, secure
area. If you are uncomfortable, go to another ATM.
Don’t let
anyone you don’t know “assist” you at an
ATM.
Cancel your transaction
and leave if you notice anything suspicious after you have
begun
Don’t count
your cash or display it after receiving it from the ATM. Put
it away in a pocket and count it later when you are in the
safety of your car, home, or other secure surroundings.
If at a drive-up
facility, make sure all the car doors are locked and the windows
rolled up except the driver’s window. Keep your engine
running and an eye on your surroundings.
Report to the ATM
owner any problems or security issues that you encounter.
This may include improper lighting, damage, etc.
Your
SHAZAMChek debit card and MasterCard®SecureCode™
Uncomfortable when
shopping on the Internet with your debit card? Apply for the
MasterCard® SecureCode™, which works in conjunction
with your existing MasterCard®-branded SHAZAMChek.
Once you have registered and created a SecureCode™,
each time you make a purchase with a participating online
merchant and enter your card number, a window will pop up
asking you for your SecureCode™. When you have
reviewed the details of your purchase and confirmed the Personal
Greeting that you set up in the enrollment process, you can
enter your SecureCode™. You will be confirmed as the
authorized carholder and your purchase will be completed...just
like using an ATM. No code, no confirmation, no purchase!
You can register for MasterCard® SecureCode™ at
any time at https://secure.shazam.net/SecureCode,
but please note that on or around June 25, 2007,
Activation during Shopping (ADS) will be implemented.
This enhanced security feature will force cardholders that
have not yet registered for SecureCode™ to enroll the
first time you visit a participating merchant website and
proceed to the checkout. Once enrolled, you will
use the unique SecureCode™ you created in the enrollment
process each time you shop with a participating merchant.
